Welcome to Basingstoke Volleyball Club |
|
Tuesday, 13 May 2008 |
We're an easy going, friendly volleyball club that encourages novices right through to skilled players. We take our social scene as seriously as having a good laugh on the volleyball court whilst getting a decent work out.
We have enough members of all ages, shapes and sizes to run three teams, (Men's A, Men's B, and Ladies) in the area league, so there's room to grow and move on up! League matches are normally held on a Sunday from October until April.
The summer season is now just starting and continues until September when our indoor season starts. This is when we recover from the summer (!!) and get back into training to prepare for playing matches in the area volleyball leagues, getting fitter, as well as honing up on our volleyball skills.
We have club nights every Wednesday between 7pm and 9pm, (from 3rd September) at Everest College where we welcome players of all abilities including beginners to the game. We're training in a brand new gym so we're looking forward to that. Every session is run by a qualified EVA coach and we're going to be starting with the basics, so you'll get a good foundation. If you're a beginner and play other ball / racquet sports you should pick up the basics of volleyball easily, as its all about timing. It will get you fitter too, we promise!
Friday is team training at QMC from 6.45pm to 9pm, are for our local league team squads to improve on their teamwork and game-play so we can be a competitive against other clubs - Newbury, Farnborough, Maidenhead and Reading, to name but a few.
If you have any questions please contact us, or better still, come and find out for yourself. Hopefully we'll be seeing you on court very soon! |

Basingstoke End Losing Streak |
|
Wednesday, 20 February 2008 |
|
Basingstoke got a rude awakening coming back after the Christmas break with humiliating losses to 2nd from bottom team Oxford and the new league leaders, Newbury. This double loss meant the end to Basingstokes perfect record as well as relinquishing top spot in the league to a formidable looking Newbury side. The run of bad form continued against Maidenhead last weekend but taking one set and a valuable point from the match showed a possible turn around in form. This showed itself to be true in the following game against 2nd placed Spikeopaths. Basingstoke returned to crushing form, beating the opposition 2 - 0 and steadying themselves in 3rd in the league. With 2 games in hand on current league leaders, Basingstoke are still in the race for the title but with only 5 games left in the season, things are really beginning to heat up! |

Sunday 20th January saw the Basingstoke Chicks head off for a late start at Kendrick School. Ahead of us lie the tough challenge of maidenhead Ladies and Reading Aces, Maidenhead a team we have struggled to beat so many times in the past but today felt different and we were ready for a new era of success. |
